OCASIO-CORTEZ TO RALLY WITH VOLUNTEERS AND ELECTED OFFICIALS IN THE BRONX AND QUEENS ON SUNDAY.


(NY-14) - This Sunday, March 27, 2022, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez will join volunteers for her re-election campaign at events in The Bronx and Queens as they gather petition signatures for the June primary election.

In Jackson Heights, Queens, Ocasio-Cortez will join State Senator Jessica Ramos (SD-13), State Senator Mike Gianaris (SD-12), Assemblymember Catalina Cruz (AD-39), Assemblymember Jessica Gonzalez-Rojas (AD-34), and Assemblymember Zohran Mamdani (AD-36). 

In Parkchester, The Bronx, the Congresswoman will rally alongside Assemblymember Karines Reyes (AD-80) and Assemblymember Nathalia Fernandez (AD-87).

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Perez Named Second Team All-District by NABC.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Manhattan’s Jose Perez has been named Second Team All-District by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

Perez, who was named First Team All-MAAC this season, led the league in scoring at 18.9 points and finished second in assists per game at 4.5. The Bronx native paced the league in free throws made (182) and free throws attempted (227). The free throw totals rank third in Division I heading into the NCAA Tournament.

In the MAAC this season, Perez had the highest-scoring game with 38 points against Niagara on Feb. 4. Perez also had a MAAC single-game best of 12 assists against Manhattanville. This season, the senior also had the most 30-point games (3) and most 20-point games (16) in the MAAC.

The NABC All-Region teams are voted on by member head coaches across Division I.

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J.  – Manhattan's season came to a close in the opening round of the 2022 MAAC Basketball Championship with a 79-67 loss to ninth-seeded Rider on Tuesday night.
 
Jose Perez had a game-high 21 points for eighth-seeded Manhattan (15-15), but Rider (13-18) had all five starters score in double figures to advance to the quarterfinals and a date with top-seed Iona on Wednesday evening.
 
Six different Jaspers supplied the first 20 points for Manhattan. Warren Williams delivered six of those markers to surpass the 1,000 career points.
 
Rider built a 13-point first-half lead only to see Manhattan take a 27-26 lead with a pair of Perez free throws with 8:47 to play in the opening half. The two Perez free throws ended a 13-4 run for the Jaspers that lasted 4:04. The Broncs scored seven of the final 10 points of the opening 20 minutes to take a 42-26 lead into halftime.
 
A Samba Diallo corner 3-pointer got the Jaspers on the first possession of the second half. The Broncs answered with an 11-0 run to extend the lead to 53-39 before the first media timeout.
 
The advantage for Rider would grow to as many as 17 in the second half. Manhattan slowly whittled the deficit to 10, 77-67, with 70 seconds to play after Josh Roberts went down Broadway for a dunk.
 
Manhattan would not get any closer inside the final minute.
 
Roberts finished with 10 points and seven rebounds. Perez added five assists to his 21 points.
 
Dimencio Vaughn led Rider with 20 points and seven rebounds.

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Jose Perez’s step-through floater with 1.9 seconds to play gave Manhattan a 74-72 win over Iona on Thursday.

Perez dribbled to the foul line with Quinn Slazinski of Iona guarding. The leading scorer in the MAAC worked his way to the elbow before a pump fake got Slazinski to bite and allowed Perez to step through for the game-winner. The Bronx native finished with a game-high 27 points. Ten of which came from the charity stripe.

The game was tied three times inside the last two minutes. Iona (24-6, 16-3 MAAC) tied the game at 68 with a Tyson Jolly dunk off his own miss. Then at 70 with a pair of free throws with 66 seconds to play and then 72 on an Elijah Joyner layup.

Manhattan (15-14, 8-12 MAAC) retook the lead on each ensuing possession to the pleasure of the neat capacity crowd inside Draddy Gymnasium. Perez hit a pair of free throws when the game was tied at 68. Josh Roberts put back a third-chance opportunity with 46 seconds to play before Perez hit the game-winner.

The Jaspers built a 15-point lead early in the second half only to see the Gaels chip away and eventually take a 56-55 lead with 10:29 to play on the back of a 9-0 run over 1:44. Neither team would lead by more than four the rest of the way.

Perez added six assists and four rebounds. Roberts finished with eight points and seven rebounds. Samba Diallo and Marques Watson finished 13 points and went a combined 8-13 from the field.

Nelly Junior Joseph 18 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists to pace the Gaels.

The Jaspers will now wait and see what seed they will be in next week’s MAAC Tournament. The final day of the MAAC regular season is Saturday.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Manhattan Drops Home Game to Saint Peter's.

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Manhattan led early in the first half before Saint Peter's defense limited the Jaspers over the next 30 minutes in a 73-51 win for the Peacocks.

Ant Nelson hit a 3-pointer to give Manhattan (14-14, 7-12 MAAC) a 13-8 lead at the 12:35 mark of the first half. It was the largest lead of the night for the Jaspers.

Saint Peter's (15-11, 13-6) took the lead for good on a pair of Doug Edert free throws to make it 19-18 at the 8:42 mark of the half. The Peacocks closed the half on a 14-0 run to lead 35-20 at the half.

The first six points of the second half went to Saint Peter's before Romar Reid hit a corner 3-pointer to end the run. Reid's triple started an 8-1 stretch for the Jaspers to pull within 14 with 14:51 to play. That would be as close as the Jaspers would get. Saint Peter's would extend the lead to as many as 24 in the second half.

Warren Williams had 12 points, six rebounds, and a pair of blocks for Manhattan. Josh Roberts pulled down a game-high eight rebounds and added five points.

Daryl Banks III led four Peacocks in double figures with 13 points.

Manhattan finishes its regular season on Thursday when Iona comes to Draddy Gymnasium. The Jaspers and Gaels tip at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
