Bronx Insider: Sports Desk: Manhattan Men's Basketball Announce 22-23 Non-Conference Schedule.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Manhattan Announces 22-23 Non-Conference Schedule.

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Manhattan men’s basketball has announced the non-conference portion of its 2022-23 schedule. The Jaspers’ MAAC schedule had been previously announced.

“I am extremely excited about this year’s non-conference schedule,” said head coach Steve Masiello. “It will prepare for a rigorous MAAC schedule. We will face many different styles of play, great players, and terrific coaching. There will be no nights off, and the schedule will require us to bring our best every day.”

Manhattan will face schools from the Atlantic-10, BIG EAST, CAA, Northeast Conference, and potentially the Ivy League or Patriot League.

The season opens for the Jaspers on Nov. 7 at VCU. It will be the first meeting ever between the Rams and Jaspers. VCU made it to the Second Round of the Postseason NIT in 2021-22.

Manhattan opens the home portion of its schedule on Nov. 11 against Central Connecticut State. Like VCU, the game against Central Connecticut will be the first between the Jaspers and Blue Devils.

The Jaspers then turn right around and make the short drive over George Washington Bridge to Fairleigh Dickinson on Nov. 13. A home game with Mount St. Vincent is scheduled for Nov. 18.

The following two games for the Jaspers will take place in London as part of the London Basketball Classic. Manhattan will play Northeastern on Nov. 24, and then either Princeton or Army West Point on Saturday, Nov. 26. All-time, the Jaspers have played Northeastern three times, 19 times against Princeton and 72 times with Army. Manhattan last played Northeastern in 2014-15, Army in 1999-2000, and Princeton in 2009-10. Princeton lost to Yale in the Ivy League Championship Game last season.

After the Jaspers return to this side of the Atlantic and open up MAAC play, they welcome former MAAC for Monmouth on Dec. 4 to Draddy Gymnasium.

Three days later, Manhattan makes a trip up I-95 to face BIG EAST foe Providence on FS1 at 8:30 p.m. Manhattan is 2-6 all-time against Providence, with the last meeting coming in the 1990-91 season. The Friars made the Sweet 16 last season at a No. 4 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
