Bronx Insider: Sports Desk: Manhattan Men's Basketball Suffers Home Loss to Quinnipiac.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Manhattan Suffers Home Loss to Quinnipiac; Nick Brennen Nets Career-High.

RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Manhattan shot over 42-percent from the floor and 3-point range, but it was not enough in an 84-65 loss to Quinnipiac on Sunday inside Draddy Gymnasium.

Quinnipiac (10-5, 1-3 MAAC) hit 13 3-pointers and shot over 50-percent from the field in the win.

“Baker Dunleavy and Quinnipiac came ready to play. We started on a run but became stagnate after they made a run,” said interim head coach RaShawn Stores afterward. “We weren’t playing as hard as we could have. We must learn you have to bring it every night. There are no games off in conference play.”

After trailing by 10 at the half, Manhattan (4-9, 2-2) cut the deficit to five with a quick 7-2 spurt over the first 90 seconds of the second half. Nick Brennen, Ant Nelson, and Samir Stewart scored the Jaspers to make it 45-40 Quinnipiac.

The Bobcats then slowly restored the lead to double digits. With the score 56-44, Quinnipiac used an 18-7 run over five minutes to take a 71-51 lead with 10:07 to play. Manhattan did score the next eight points to get back to within 12 after Josh Roberts hit a step-back jumper.

Quinnipiac thwarted the run with Matt Balanc jumper, which started an 11-1 run that spanned 2:56 and led to the Bobcats’ largest lead of the game, 22, at 82-60, with 3:59 to play.

In the first half, the Jaspers did battle back from being down 13 to get within five, 38-33, with 95 seconds remaining after an 8-0 run. Quinnipiac scored the final five points of the half, including a Balanc 3-pointer to restore the double-digit lead.

Nelson and Balanc finished with 20 points to lead their respective teams. Brennen finished with a career-high 18 points for Manhattan. Four other Bobcats were in double figures with Balanc.

The Jaspers will welcome Canisius to Draddy Gymnasium on Friday, Jan. 8, for their next game. Tip-off between the Jaspers and Golden Griffins is scheduled for 7 p.m.
