FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Manhattan Sweeps Siena with Win Friday Night.
RIVERDALE, N.Y. – Manhattan did not need overtime to beat Siena this time. Manhattan won 75-68 on Friday night to complete the season sweep.
Jose Perez had 32 points (10-21), six rebounds, and six assists. Ant Nelson and Josh Roberts finished with 13 and 12 points, respectively, for the Jaspers.
Manhattan (10-5, 3-3 MAAC) went on a 12-4 run over 3:47 in the middle of the second half to take a 53-47 lead to create separation. Perez scored eight, and Nelson added the other four. Immediately following the run, Siena (6-7, 3-2) made it a 53-51 game on four free throws. That would be as close as the Saints would get over the final 9:37.
The Saints would trim the lead to three with 1:15 to play before Warren Williams hit a right-handed hook shot in the lane to get the lead back to five for the Jaspers with 22 seconds to play. Nelson then capped the night with a dunk off a feed from Perez with 12 seconds left.
Siena made it a four-point game with 4:10 to go before Nelson hit a wing 3-pointer to restore Manhattan’s seven-point lead, 67-60.
Perez, who played all 40 minutes, went 11-11 from the free-throw line. Roberts added five rebounds and a block to his 12 points.
The Jaspers got to the free-throw line 24 times and hit 83-percent from the charity stripe. For the game,
Manhattan shot 49-percent from the floor, including 62-percent in the second half.
Anthony Gaines had 18 points to lead Siena.
It is another quick turnaround for Manhattan. The Jaspers return to action on Sunday at Monmouth. The Jaspers and Hawks tip at 2 p.m. on ESPN3.
