FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Manhattan Falls in Sunday Matinee at Monmouth.
WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – In a game between two teams at .500 MAAC play, Monmouth came away with the 78-62 win over Manhattan on Sunday afternoon.
Monmouth (12-6, 4-3 MAAC), who never trailed on Sunday, had five players in double figures, led by
Walker Miller’s 19 points. Marcus McClary had 18 points and was joined in double figures by Sharvar Reynolds, George Papas, and Nikkei Rutty.
Manhattan (10-2, 3-4) was led once again by Jose Perez with 22 points.
It was the seventh straight loss by Manhattan to Monmouth.
At the break, the Hawks, who led 35-31, methodically built the advantage out to 49-35 by the 14:19 mark of the second half. A 9-0 run by the Hawks followed a pair of Nick Brennen free throws, which brought Manhattan within five.
From there, the lead would grow to as many as 21 for the Hawks. The deficit for the Jaspers would stay between 14-19 for the remainder of the contest. Monmouth shot 51-percent from the field in the second half compared to Manhattan’s 33-percent.
Brennen finished with 13 points, and Samir Stewart had 10 for the Jaspers. Elijah Buchanan had nine points and nine rebounds.
Manhattan visits Saint Peter’s on Friday at 7 p.m. The Jaspers and Peacocks can be watched on ESPN3.
