FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Jaspers to Play Three Games in the Bahamas.
RIVERDALE, N.Y. – The Manhattan men’s basketball program will take a foreign tour to the Bahamas from August 5 – 12. The Jaspers will play three games in the Bahamas.
Manhattan’s first game will be on Saturday, Aug. 6, against the Abaco Squad. The Jaspers will also play on Aug. 9 against Raw Talent Elite and on Aug. 10 versus Discount Distributors Rockets. All three games will take place in the Imperial Ballroom at Atlantis. All games are scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
The NCAA allows basketball teams to take an international trip every four years. The preseason games do not count toward the 2022-23 campaign, and the week provides extra practice time and game action for the Jaspers, including the three newcomers.
The Jaspers return First Team All-MAAC performer Jose Perez from last season. Perez was also named Second Team All-Met and NABC Second Team All-District. Perez led the MAAC in scoring last season at 18.9.
Manhattan also returns its second and third leading scorers from last season, Ant Nelson (10.9) and Josh Roberts (8.9). Roberts also led the Jaspers on the glass, grabbing 6.5 rebounds per game.
Three newcomers join the Jaspers for the 2022-23 campaign: Raziel Hayun, Omar Silverio, and Adam Walden.
Hayun arrives in Riverdale from Israel, where he played for Maccabi Haifa and the Israel U19 team. Silverio comes to Riverdale after making stops at URI and Hofstra. Last season at Hofstra, Silverio averaged 10.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game while starting 11 times for the Pride. Walden hails from Baltimore, Md. but played his final high school basketball season at Our Savior Lutheran in the Bronx.
