FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Jaspers Go Undefeated on Trip to Bahamas.
NASSAU, Bahamas – Manhattan finished its exhibition trip in the Bahamas with a perfect 3-0 record. The Jaspers topped the Abaco Squad, Raw Talent, and the Discount Distributors Rockets.
The three games were part of the Summer of Thunder series by the Bahamas Basketball Federation. Other college teams included; Appalachian State, Eastern Kentucky, Fordham, Kentucky, Mississippi, New Mexico State, NC State, Ohio State, South Dakota State, and South Alabama.
Game 1: Manhattan 84, Abaco Squad 80
Four Jaspers reached double figures in scoring, led by Omar Silverio, in the four-point win to open the team’s trip to the Bahamas. Josh Roberts opened his week with a double-double performance.
The Jaspers held a plus-eight margin on the glass and defensively forced 17 turnovers. Defensively, the Jaspers limited Abaco to 25-percent shooting from 3-point range.
Game 2: Manhattan 92, Raw Talent Elite 88
Five Jaspers scored in double figures in the four-point win over Raw Talent Elite. Silverio and Jose Perez combined for 41 points. Roberts had a double-double for the Jaspers.
As a team, Manhattan shot 52-percent from the floor and hit 33-percent from 3-point range. The Jaspers’ defense held Raw Talent Elite to 27-percent shooting from behind the 3-point line and forced 23 turnovers.
Game 3: Manhattan 87, Discount Distributers Rockets 79
Silverio paced the Jaspers in scoring in the third and final game of the trip, an 87-79 win over Discount Distributers Rockets. Roberts added his third double-double in as many games for Manhattan.
Manhattan posted 18 assists, 10 steals, and four blocks in the trip’s finale. Once again, the Green & White defense didn’t allow the opposition to reach 30-percent from 3-point range. Manhattan also recorded 10 steals.
Manhattan will continue its preparations for the 2022-23 campaign.
